Quiet Emotion Reflecting? Depressed? Anxious? Bored? I meant for this to be a portrait of sadness, but most people that have commented see something else.
Winkie Head Intense looking fella, no? Watch out for this guy - he's got playa written all over him.

Got a shooter here and here Fun round of Photoshop 7 digital painting. Office interior with a homie pointing out shooters straight out of the movie Ronin. Going for a graffiti type style, but it ended up getting a little too realistic.

Guard Dog Attentive guard dog. Unintentially turned out to look like that Marmaduke cartoon strip character.
Dinner Time Jollly giant enjoys some grub.
Giant Questioning Authority Giant questioning his master.
Polar bears Wrestling Two polar bears wrestling each other. Used the January 2004 issue of National Geographic as reference.
Bull Warrior Bull warrior poised to strike.
I tried working on a really big Photoshop canvas (4000x4000), but my computer couldn't handle it at the time so I had to scale it down a bit. Thank goodness my newer computer has no such limitations.
Pirate Strongman Pirate strongman showing his stuff.
Fast Food Frustration A frustrated fast food worker takes a moment to vent.
Don't fight it... just let it out.
Elf Chef Sketch of an elf chef carefully preparing a meal by candlelight.
Chef Getting Pelted with Snowball A chef chatting away moments before a snowball nails him. I'm not sure how or why this drawing came about.
Bottle Rocket - Dignan Posing Dignan from Bottle Rocket taking in the scene. God bless him, he just wants to run his own caper.
Dignan represents all that is good about criminals. How can you not like this guy? Owen Wilson's later roles all kind of have that same upbeat realness to them. It just seems like nothing can keep him down.
Bottle Rocket - Dignan Pointing Gun Dignan, the brilliant bandit from Bottle Rocket takes aim with his revolver.
In case you haven't seen my ravings yet, Bottle Rocket is one of the finest comedies of my generation. The whole movie builds to a crescendo ending with one of the funniest, most frenetic scenes ever filmed (the heist scene).
Awww Snap! A happy guy solving something. One of the first really involved digital coloring jobs I've done. Took about 4 Photoshop hours. Lost track of penciling time.
I was going a little crazy with the dodge/burn tool. Photoshop is such a great program - it has so many toys to fiddle with.

Marker Face Sketch - Solemn Man Michael Douglas floating head - spooky.
Bald Smirk
Aardvark Commando Aardvark commando ready to take on the world. Sketched this on the back of a handout in a networking class in college. What a snoozer that was.
Aggression Session - Eiremon Counter-Strike character sketch... Eiremon. Rastaman with the Mac-10 and his natty natty dreads ready to hit the scene.
Once again, the Aggression Session clan member's avatar proved to be more intimidating than the real deal. Put down the joint and cover me ya lousy bumbleclot punk!
Face Tree
Pool Remember that movie Powder with Jeff Goldblum? This was the albino kid (Sean Patrick Flanery). Used some cheesey entertainment magazine picture for reference.
Pretty Boy Lion Pompous looking lion looks on with contempt.
Tearing Through Bunny Town A fiery moped rider comes tearing through Bunny Town much to the delight of a flower presenting bunny.
Not a bad summary eh? A picture's worth a thousand words my ass.
Gentleman with Magnifying Glass An old timey gentleman stands next to a giant magnifying glass. One of the ideas kicked around for KinTracker.com.
Stoney the Elf A side profile sketch of Stoney the Elf. What he lacks in motivation he more than makes up for in cosmic theories.
Bitey the Elf Sketch of a sinister looking elf character with a big smile on his face.

Light Mech Warrior My first attempt at drawing a mech. Background needs some loving.
Gremlin Little gremlin perched on an interested fella's hand. Gremlin is loosely based on an old Bugs Bunny cartoon. Couldn't find any pictures on the Internet so I'm not sure how closely my gremlin resembles the Bugs Bunny gremlin.
Corn Flakes What aspiring comic strip artist doesn't try to be the next Gary Larson?

Old Toothy
Big Gunner A quick PS sketch. About an hour.
Slapped Face Face getting a brisk slap.
Suit
Blue Moon I love drawing the crescent moon. Such an interesting base shape to start from.
My true inspiration for the crescent moon art was the horrible McDonald's commercials from the 80s where a moonshaped head with sunglasses sings "Mac the Knife". I can't remember anything about my childhood except stupid commercials and getting hit in the face by a tetherball in 5th grade. Everything else is pretty much a blur.

Science - Test Pilot Test pilot with goggles and a jumpsuit.
Busy Vampire Vampire walks briskly to his destination.
Blade Troll Happy troll showing his blade.
Dorie Quick sketch of Dorie (Tia Texada) from the movie "Thirteen Conversations About One Thing". I really dug this movie - very sad. They were running the movie quite a bit on HBO so I ended up seeing it a few times.
Pointing Fingers Cartoon guy points his fingers.
Hobo Standing Sketch of a hobo about to set out with his bindle slung over his shoulder. As pathetic as it sounds, the hobo life of riding the rails to different towns has always been a fantasy of mine. Too bad the hobo lifestyle requires you to be stinky.
Hobo Walking A happy hobo sets out on his journey.
Cup of Joe in a Toy Store Toy store attendant enjoys some coffee.
Cartoon Cowboy A cartoon cowboy gets ready to slap some skins.
Bird Warrior - Dark I like this martial arts bird looking thing. He looks lean and mean. Sketched this out for an acquaintance's Sci-Fi TV show pitch which obviously didn't go anywhere. You think I'd be doing this if I was a TV bigwig? I'd buy and sell you for my own twisted amusement.
Asian Blade Warrior 2 Another sketch based on a little childhood pewter figure. I always liked the little plastic figures better as a child, but pewter has grown on me as I've gotten older.
Disco King - Pimp Style The disco king flips his hair.
Marker Face Sketch - Untrusting Man
Marker Face Sketch - Curious Gaze
Frog Warrior Frog warrior pilot hiding his blade.
Impress X-mas 2002 We wanted to have more of a simple illustrated feel for the 2002 card so we decided to have all the action happen in one primary shot.
Space Warrior Space man with cheesy 50's style ray gun.
Simple X-mas Tree
Lion Warrior King
Lion Head
Green Absorbed Hoody An obsessed jewel fan is absorbed with his treasure.
Counter-Strike Monkey 3

Scared Face
Nervous Clown Really started to get the feel of watercolour pencils with this clown drawing.
Li'l Homie Pointing
Holy Cow Holy cow... heh heh. I always admired the way Hindus and some African cultures revered an animal that provided for them. With all our food packaged and served to us you almost forget that it comes from a living creature.
Hi Birdie
Hoopster Basketball player takes it to the hoop. Basketball art has always been a favorite subject. No sport better captures poetry in motion quite like hoops.
I had some fun with Photoshop working with this piece.
Old Time Evil Villain An old time evil villain glides into the scene. We're catching him just moments before he starts twirling his mustache and tossing his head back with maniacal laughter.
Freaky Face Reporter Investigative reporting at its finest. The touch of drool was my favorite part of the piece. It really speaks volumes about Sunny.
Abraham Lincoln is dead Abe going to bat for the people.
Macho Warrior A Bruce Campbell inspired macho warrior flashes some tricky signs.
Puppetmaster Jester Court jester performs a scene with two marionettes.
Spikey Haired Sad Guy Cartoon sketch of a teenager wearing a happy t-shirt.
The Bowler A bowler who looks a bit like me winds up for the toss. Bowling is great fun... when you get even a single strike you feel like bowling a perfect 300 game is within your grasp.
Quiet Road Photoshop sketch of an old country road.
Marker Face Sketch - Quiet Woman
Gentleman Head One of the ideas tossed around for a KinTracker logo.
Sir Kurt the Defender His blade might be small, but he knows how to wield that sucker. He'll cut you good.
Lizard on Tree Lizard happily holds on to a delicate branch while the wind rips through.
Cuphead Coffee, tea, or hot cocoa would be perfect for this freaky looking cup. Ears make such good handles... ummm... don't read too much into that one please.
Presenting the Newest Toy A miniature person is presented by his creator.
Pet A leashed bear thingie examines his master's leash.
Gunthar the Scientist German scientist with clipboard.
Fools Better Recognize Freaky dude in a bizarre pose.
Smug Homie A content looking homeboy looks on.
Pirate Ultra A spikey haired swashbuckler leaves his home to set out on the ocean.
Cat Bully A cat bully beats up on a poor, defenseless mouse.
I have a couple of cats and I just don't fully trust them. Cats just seem capable of anything to me. They freaking bat mice around just for the sadistic pleasure of it.
Mouse Holding Thorn Cartoon sketch of a mouse holding a thorn.
High Five A funky sketch of a high five in action. High fives are infinitely more entertaining when both parties jump.
Fratboy Pointing Sketch of a fratboy mocking something. Curse their biting jabs.
Eager Child Running Sketch of an eager child character running across the snow with arms extended.
Discovering Hands A stoner discovers his hands all over again.
Beard Guy Cartoon sketch of a bearded man in a formal outfit.
Box Stretcher A little fella tries to break free of his box. Oh, he wants out sooooo bad. And yet you sit back and do nothing. No wonder tech jobs are fleeing to India.
Announcer Sketch of an announcer announcing. Yeah, I'm running outta steam...
This was supposed to be for some voice actor site, but it ended up getting canned halfway through development. Oh well.
Aggression Session - Ripped Monkey Yet another avatar for Counter-Strike... The Ripped Monkey. I like this little rascal - he's imposing yet huggable.
When will the developers of first person shooters finally listen to the masses and bring us an urban warfare game with monkeys bringing the pain? Huh? Answer me that. Angry, gun-toting monkeys add that extra bit of spice to any genre.
Aggression Session - El Guapo Counter-Strike character sketch... El Guapo. East L.A. homie in a tough guy pose. Watch out - this cholo don't play.
Ahhh, the ironies never cease... the homie who goes by "El Guapo" is whiter than a polar bear in a snow storm eating a saltine and mayo sandwich on whitebread. Damn, that's one white cracker!
Datalicious X-mas 2000 Datalicious wanted to send out a Christmas card that was topical so we used the Bush/Gore Presidential election as the theme.
Dwarf Marksmen Two ice dwarf riflemen survey the scene ahead.
Curled up fox Fox marker sketch from a Robert Bateman painting. What's cuter than a wittle fox? Maybe an otter doing cute little human things with its hands...

Ripped Monkey Counter-Strike character sketch... The Ripped Monkey.

Cat Birthday So I celbrate my cat's birthday. So what? There's more cake leftover when you eat with a cat.
Woman Warrior A female warrior cracks her whip.
Blue Dude Blue dude tempting all who pass with his delicious orange.
I think this guy would make a neat replacement for the evil witch in Snow White. Give it a kooky South Park vibe. Give blue dude a gold chain with a big clock like Flava Flav and "Snow White Redux" practically writes itself.
Prayer or Yoga or Whatever A fella finds his center during a yoga workout.
Pointing Knight Sketch of a knight preparing himself for battle in his own unique kind of way.
Dwarf Guard Dwarf guard happily mans his post with his trusty spear.
Master of Ceremonies The Master of Ceremonies addresses his people. I think this character's outfit is very cool. Very priestly.
Angry Dude An angry dude blows his top. Nothing quite like squiggly lines to show emotion (or smell).
Bug Eye Bug eyed fella looks on. Shading with a plain old office pen is kind of fun. It gives it a different feel than the tight lines of a drawing pen. You really don't have to commit as much which I guess defeats the purpose of sketching with a pen, but I like to do it anyway.
Aggression Session - Bela This vampire is just too cool for school.
Another random Counter-Strike character sketch for the Aggression Session elite. Man, did we ever get our asses kicked playing other clans. Why oh why did I think we could ever win a match?
The only clan we ever beat was a bunch of stoners who showed up late for the match. Take that ya bong-jockeys!
The Onion The Onion gets ready to dispense some justice.
Super L Watch out for Super L. He'll bust you up.
Applause Flash Pitch Applause, a toy company, needed a fun experience for their web-site. An interactive city was the original pitch. We were thinking that the "Applause" city could change based on holidays or seasons like a pumpkin patch for Halloween or snow and pine trees for winter.
War Party
Shadow Boxer Pretty boy fighter shadow boxing.
Shiver The first acrylic painting that I actually liked.
Peak Meeting Giants and winged men have always been favorite subjects. I guess I've always fantasized about flying and/or crushing cities underfoot. Analyze that.
Greek Profile
Crab 1 First part of a three part crab series. The idea is for the crab theme to get more and more abstract while retaining what it is.
Harbor Freak
Serious Gnome
Oompa Loompa - Pissed An upset off-duty Oompa Loopa. Beware.
Mushroom Papa Mushroom father with his little fungus son.
Daredevil The Man Without Fear Daredevil on a rooftop. My interpretation of Daredevil loses the "DD" on his chest. How the heck would he stitch that on?
Demon Soldier Sketch of a cartoony demon soldier.
Amazon Protector A tropical dweller greets all who come on by.
Bridge Crossing A sketch from a three piece (18x24) narrative watercolor work for a drawing class. This was my favorite assignment of the whole year. I loved the idea of telling a story with three big panels.
The first panel had a couple walking across a bridge with a trolls feet visible and a few bandits lurking in the shadows.
The second panel was basically what you see in this sketch, but a lot cleaner.
The third panel was the troll picking his teeth with a bandit's knife while the couple and their baby frollics below.
Too bad I didn't keep track of any of most of my college stuff. I never would have thought that a packrat like myself would be able to lose such important junk. Curses.
Lamp
Video Game Sketch A few arcade classic characters ready to throw down.
My Mario Mario the plumber ready for action.
Impress X-mas 2001 More of a commercial than a holiday card, we wanted to play up the cheesy salesman aspect of a business greeting card.
Tetons

Cat Warrior King
Hoopin Driving down the lane and scooping it in the hoop. It's difficult to present the fast paced nature of basketball in an illustration without using motion lines. :)
Old Woman and Young Child About four and a half hours into this digital illustration. Starting to get the feel for Photoshop drawing. I think it might be wise to pick up some tablet skills if I am going to continue drawing on the computer. The brush tool would really be easier
Graduation Cap
Mice Drinking Two mice saying cheers.
Butterfly Collar Gotta love the old pimp wink and point. Saturday Night Fever's John Travolta (long before Battlefield Earth's John Travolta existed) was my inspiration for this one.
Bound Guy A bound guy struggles to break free. I never noticed before, but breaking free seems to be a recurring theme for me. Hmmm... where does that stem from? Don't read anything into it you sickos.
Blue Warrior Axeman standing in the shadows. I always thought the axeman was the coolest in medieval battle. They're usually the stocky fellows who use an axe instead of a sword because it makes it easier to cut the head clean off. Just a theory.
Blob Eating Peanut People One of those bizarre drawings that came about in a boring class. God bless oblivious teachers - their monotonous droning is my inspiration.
Bikes and Bones I wish this had scanned better (I didn't know enough about scanning at the time). It's really one of my favorite works from my first year at school. I had a rough time with pen and ink at first and this was my first real triumph.
Big Nosed Elf Now there's a chin. You could crack walnuts with that sucker. I always liked to think that elves (the fantasy type) come in all shapes and sizes like people. So you'd have fat elves, hairy elves, gay elves... the whole nine yards.
Big Guy Happy big guy holding some documents. Where did the stereotype of jolly fat people get started? In my experience, fatties are just as surly as skinnies.
Below the Eye I don't know how homeless people in cold cities can survive. Even with jackets and blankets it must get insanely cold in cities like New York and Chicago. Yup, that's a downer alright.
Beatdown Police brutality in the near future. Loved that "Alien Nation" flick. It would be so cool if some alien race from a distant land replaced our existing persecuted minorities. All humans could band together and hate a new minority.
Bear and Fairy Bears and fairies you ask? I dunno. Whateva.
This sketch is a real oldie. Most of these early scans turned out so blurry. The JPEG quality must have been way down.
Batman Growing up I was always more of a Marvel Comics fan (The Punisher, Spider-Man, X-men), but Batman was the one exception. Dark, brooding, hungry for revenge, and rich as the devil. Cool.
This was my first real attempt at inking over a pencil drawing. I think it turned out pretty decent.
Bart Simpson Toy Bart Simpson McDonald's (or was it BurgerKing?) toy. First serious ink wash drawing. Ink wash was just about the coolest thing I had ever done at the time (1995). Unfortunately, my sloppy ways cause the entire room to become part of the piece - ink splatters everywhere in my hands.
Baggie First Paintshop illustration... Yeah, I know it sucks. Semi-self portrait. Using the mouse to draw was such a weird concept to me at that time. Freehand drawing on a computer is still a challenge for me, with or without a tablet, but the modern hardware and software makes it much easier now.
Baby Hey look! It's li'l Luke as a baby. Who would've guessed he'd grow up to be such an introspective hermit?
This sketch was the first page in my first college sketchbook. I had a great professor later that year (British fella) that made us sketch everyday or he'd knock us down a grade.
You might have noticed how smudged this drawing is... Never do layers of colored pencils in a cheap sketchbook. While we're at it, don't sketch yourself as a baby either... you start to dwell on how the world was so full of promise at that age. What a fool I was.
Attack Dog with Blade A knife wielding attack dog flexes for the camera. Man's best friend - to the extreme! Pitch that! Or don't. At this point I don't care what you do.
Asteroids I always thought it would be neat to remake the old Asteroids video game with a real nimble Robotech type ship blasting away. I'm still waiting.
If anybody knows of any "videogame idea dude" positions opening up drop me a line. I've got some great ideas on how to take the Q-bert franchise to the next level.
Asian Blade Warrior Sketch of a little pewter figure I've had since grade school. The whole asian warrior theme was a favorite of mine when I was a kid... Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (comic and movie), Yusagi Yojimbo comics, Kung Fu movies and these little models.
We used to paint these little guys with Testor paints and sell them back to the hobby shop so we'd have enough money to buy more models... it was a vicious cycle and frankly I'm not sure how the hobby shop stayed open with that business model.
Arrow Man Right A little pointer dude leading the way. This dates back all the way to sedgeman.com v1 (Luke's Online Gallery circa 1997).
What a funky little site v1 was. I wanted to do all these funky modern petroglyph type figures in the background, but I didn't know enough about HTML to lay it out how I wanted so I canned the idea.
Maybe I'll pick up the rock carving idea for some sketchs in the future. Who knows? Do you? That's right... no. Sorry, sorry (I'm not sure when I became openly hostile with my descriptions, but it's probably not healthy).
Angry Demon Grrr, make me my dinner! Grrr, my cranium is about to burst! Grrr, I'm not achieving my lifegoals! Grrr, gay marriage will lead to the extinction of my people!
Alien Howdy This alien is just happy to be alive. It's such a nice change of pace running into a pleasant alien.
Ahab the Pirate Ahhh, Ahab the pirate. I love pirates. I was so disappointed when they wussed out the Pirates of the Carribean ride at Disneyland by making the pirates chase food instead of skirt. What's the freaking point of making pirates politically correct?
This was one of my first attempts at a transparent GIF. Didn't quite understand the finer points of anti-aliasing back then.
Aggression Session - Whacka Another Counter-Strike related sketch - the avatar for Whacka.
The linchpin of the Aggression Session elite (according to Whacka) Whacka epitomizes what's wrong with our lousy clan. He's lazy, he's selfish, he taunts/trashtalks/slaps/kicks/bans just to stir people up, he flashbangs his teammates and he's generally just a cancer to our organization. Don't get me wrong, Ripped Monkey can teamkill with the best of em, but half of his "oopsies" are accidental.
I cartooned this one up quite a bit. This sketch used to be a cheesy Counter-Strike inspired soldier with a "Last Dragon" glow. Who's the master?
Accumulate Second project for my graphics (typography 101) class. Despite my initial resistance to taking a typography class I actually had a pretty good time. After a few classes I really started to appreciate the beauty of a graphic design piece.
5K Project for first year graphics class. Use negative space in typography to convey a message. This project was my first exposure to using a copying machine for quick drafts and the lovely little tool called a "light table".
Mountain View - Ivins, Utah View of the red rock mountains in Ivins, Utah. Really one of the most beautiful areas of the country.
Elves Sawing Log Two elves saw a log in Santa's workshop.
Elf with Rocking Horse Elf making a rocking horse in Santa's workshop.
Q-Bert Q-bert standing at the top of his pyramid.
Datalicious Marquee Videogame marquee. Looks really cool when it is backlit. Characters from left to right... Bubble Bobble, Centipede, Ghosts and Goblins, Mario, Dirk from Don Bluth's Dragon's Lair, Ryu from Street Fighter, Pacman and Q-bert. Thanks to Brian Shields for the design work on this piece.

Pig Warrior Pig warrior looks over a burnt rock.

Pipe Smoking Gnome I can't remember how the wax melted, but it ended up pooling in a cool smokey pattern... just added a quick gnome painting on a thin board to complement the wax puddle.
Squatty Scientist Mad scientist looking fella.
Work Sucks Devil strangling a working stiff.
Chunky Shroom
Chickenhawk Football Chickenhawk returning a punt for a touchdown. The toughest character in the old Merry Melodies cartoons was always the chickenhawk... perfect for an NFL franchise, no?
Dragon, Flower and Sun Added a little color and background with Photoshop 7 to an old ink drawing. Quick and dirty.
Graduation Cap Graduation cap originally drawn for the City of Springfield, Oregon web site.
El Guapo Aye! It's El Guapo the mighty! Mexican wrestling is how it should be - unsafe and whacked.

Crab 3 Final part of a three part crab series. Abstraction is in full effect, but the crab theme lives on.

Smirking Clown First drawing using CorelDraw. I started to draw a normal person, but after I was finished messing with brushes and filters he turned out looking like a clown.
Cloth and Brush The paper had a nice reaction to my super wet ink washes.
Buggin Had some problems getting this one to turn out. I had some ambitions for doing another more sophisticated draft of this drawing, but I've put the idea aside for now. I think this would make a great illustration.
